Description
Moraine Lake ~ this is a favorite spot that my daughter and I loved to hike!
It is another lake vying for the distinction of being the most beguiling body of water on planet Earth. It really is hypnotic in its class and brilliant green color.
Moraine Lake was originally dammed by a glacier moraine in 1899, and so it was named. The pile of sedentary rock on the lake shore suggests that this rock slide debris may have formed the lake's original dam.
Moraine Lake is nestled in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, each of which was named in 1893 after the Stoney words for one through ten. The area has since been named Wenkchemna Valley, after the Stoney word for ten. Concealed from view on the north side of the limestone backdrop is Wenkchemna Glacier, the icy source that feeds Moraine Lake.
